Paediatric First Aid

This 12 hour course is designed for those who work or volunteer with children and who need a higher level of Paediatric First Aid knowledge to meet the requirements of Ofsted and the EYFS practice guidelines.The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to attain the knowledge and competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations which can arise when working with or looking after children. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the paediatric first aider.Topics covered -Legislation and Regulations, the role of the first aider, first aid priorities, scene assessment and management, casualty assessment, dealing with unconscious casualties, resuscitation, anaphylactic shock, asthma, bites and stings, bleeding and shock, breath holding, burns, choking, croup, diabetes, epilepsy, eye injuries, fainting, fractures, heat and cold, meningitis, poisioning, spinal injuries and sprains and strains.Course Benefits -On successful completion of the course candidates will be awarded a certificate which is valid for a three year period.Prerequisites - None. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the practical elements of the course including conducting CPR on the floor.This course will be taught using a combination of theory, practical activities and group discussions.CPE - 12 hours
