The National Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to one A-level The BTEC Level 3 Exended Certificate in Health and Social Care is designed as a stand alone qualification that provides learners with knowledge and understanding of the health and social care sectors, and specialist knowledge and understanding according to the units studied. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care can provide a springboard to a university degree or Foundation Degree in an appropriate vocational discipline, to BTEC HNCs and HNDs, or to employment. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care specification consists of two external exams and one mandatory unit and one optional unit. Year 1: Unit 1: Human Lifespan and Development (External exam) - 90GLH Unit 6: Meeting individual care and support needs- Coursework- 90 GLH Year 2: (If you have successfully completed the first Year of the course) Working in Health and Social care (External exam) - 120 GLH Optional units (You must choose one from the following list) - 60GLH- coursework Unit 14: Sociological perspectives Unit 15: Psychological perspectives Unit 16: Supporting individuals with additional needs Unit 18: Physiological disorders in care Homework: 3 hours per week

A variety of assessment methods will be used, including case studies, assignments, performance observation in local settings, Realistic scenarios will play an important part in learners’ assessment Enrichment: Students will have the option of completed after one year and obtain the BTEC Level 3 certificate which is the equivalent of one AS, if the required exam and mandatory unit have been completed.
