English Language is a dynamic course which teaches students to become experts in linguistic and grammatical analysis when considering how a wide variety of text types is made effective for a range of audiences and purposes. Students will look at spoken and written texts of all kinds; from fictional genres such as stories and dramatic scripts to non-fiction genres such as newspaper articles, advertisements and media scripts. They will also study spoken language as a distinct mode of communication and look at factors which affect how we choose to speak, including gender and the context and reasons for communication at any one time.
