Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services (QCF)

This course provides an opportunity for you to explore in a practical way the skills that are required for entry into the Uniformed Public Services. It will give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment either within the public services or not. The course will consider aspects of physical fitness and will investigate issues of personal health and well-being, help you develop problem solving skills and carrying out essential map reading and navigation. As part of your time on the course you will investigate employment opportunities and develop an understanding of the role of the Uniformed Services. You will develop a range of employability skills and techniques, understanding personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life. The course includes a variety of units which could include: Public Service Careers; Map Reading; Wellbeing and Fitness; Team Working; Self Discipline. During the year you will take part in visits and activities which may include: Army residential visit; Presentations at College by the RAF, Army, Navy, Police and Fire Service; Personal development activity with the Army; Police riot training; Residential visit at the Royal Navy base, Portsmouth. You will also study functional skills Maths, English and ICT (unless previously attained) which are essential for students wishing to continue in Further Education or in employment. Other courses may be offered alongside the Diploma such as Award in Exercise Studies and Employability Skills which help develop the learner, widen their knowledge and ensure the learning experience is diverse and exciting. The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory. We include e-learning, one-to-one support, Individual Learning Plans, external visits, events and speakers.
