Studying the past helps us to understand how the society we live in came to be, and to appreciate differences between cultures and between individuals. You will study topics such as: Britain 1906-1951, Life in Nazi Germany 1933-1945, Aspects of International Relations 1945-2004, and How Wars Begin: The European Powers and the Origins of Two World Wars, 1815-1941. For AS: Paper 1 - Britain, 1906-1951. Topic covers changes in British politics, society and economy, the impact of two world wars and the birth of the Welfare State. Exam: Essay based paper, 1 hour 15 minutes. Paper 2 - Life in Nazi Germany, 1933-1945. Topic covers the impact of Nazism on German society; the use of propaganda, terror, legal power and social policy; the impact of war on German people. Exam: Sources and essays, 1 hour 30 minutes.
