Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is taken by all International Baccalaureate students, and gives coherence to the whole diploma programme. It challenges you to examine how you know things in different subjects and, more widely, in different areas of life. It is intended to be practical - you bring your own experience from other subjects to inform the discussion, and should have a better understanding of your other subjects as a result of TOK lessons. The course also aims to lead you to an awareness of, and reflection on, personal and ideological biases regardless of whether, in the end, these views are retained, revised or rejected. This is not a course in philosophy as such, although we do start with a brief look at some of the philosophers and their ideas which have influenced the way we think and talk about knowledge.
