What do I need to get on this study programme? A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade A-C or a Level 2 course at Merit or Distinction What will I do on this study programme? This study programme is a balance of practical work and theory. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of animals. The study programme has been designed to provide you with the opportunity to gain detailed academic knowledge and understanding of all aspects of animal science, management, behaviour and husbandry through theory-based and practical sessions with the wide range of animals kept at the Equestrian and Animal Centre (EAC). You will also have the opportunity to get involved with the equine activities at the centre. This study programme will include the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Care, which includes a number of mandatory and optional units. Some of the units that you will study include Animal behaviour, Anatomy and physiology, Animal health, Exotics, Dog grooming, Animal nutrition, Animal nursing, Animal welfare and breed development. Maths and English are a fundamental element of this study programme. The study programme also includes; tutorial support, study skills, work related experience, employability skills and personal and social development (PSD). How will I be assessed? Observation of practical activities, group work, presentations, coursework and examinations. What options do I have after successfully completing? Progress to Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Animal Management at Weston College in partnership with the University of the West of England A study programme such as veterinary nursing, animal behaviour science or marine biology. Job/career opportunities Rescue centre worker, animal technician, vet, zoo keeper, marine and freshwater biologist, animal behaviourist, international conservation work or veterinary nurse etc.
