French A Level

UPDATED 20151104 16:12:07

French is an enriching, linguistic and cultural experience which cultivates a deeper understanding of youth culture in Year 12 and of wider global issues in Year 13. Why study French? French at AS and A2 Level is a natural extension of the work undertaken at GCSE. The course aims to extend linguistic proficiency in the four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The teaching will be in French and you should be prepared to participate fully in oral discussion. Students are encouraged to immerse themselves in French culture throughout the course, with regular cinema visits, conferences and trips to French theatrical productions. AS Modules Unit 1 – Listening, Reading and Writing Candidates will answer a range of questions based on approximately five minutes of recorded material and on a selection of written texts. You will also respond in writing to a question based on one of the AS topics from a choice of three. Unit 2 – Speaking Test Candidates will discuss a target-language stimulus card based on one of the AS topics and take part in a conversation covering three further AS topics. A2 Modules Unit 3 – Listening, Reading and Writing Candidates will answer a range of questions based on approximately six minutes of recorded material and on a selection of written texts. They will also respond in writing to a question based on one of the four A2 cultural topic areas. Two questions will be set on each of the areas. Unit 4 – Speaking Test Candidates will present a point of view based on a targetlanguage stimulus card from one of the A2 topic areas and take part in a conversation based on two cultural topics they have studied.
