To gain industry recognised standards in hairdressing completion of the following specialist units are needed health and safety, promotion of products and services, consultation skills, dress long hair, advanced colouring techniques and colour correction using professional Matrix products, alternative setting, advanced cutting techniques and promoting financial effectiveness in the salon. As well as developing effectiveness at work through team building and working to targets learners will complete all assessments in the salon environment on paying clients. Learners can use the NVQ to progress to a NVQ Level 4 or HND courses including university or seek employment in the industry. Learners attend approximately 1 day a week plus extra days if you are may be required to take a maths and English GCSE resit or Functional Skills qualification at level 1 or 2. Plus all learners will do a work experience placement in a salon at least 1 day per week ideally. Those on an Apprenticeship will attend approximately 1 day per week as part of full time employment.
