BTEC First in Health and Social Care

The structure of the course is flexible depending on what has been studied at key stage 4. There is an option to continue and develop knowledge and skills of health and social care from year 11 into year 12 and then begin level 3 at the beginning of year 13. There is also an opportunity to begin this course in year 12 with the opportunity to progress onto level 3 later on in sixth form. The final route to be studied will be discussed in the final interview stages following your GCSE results. This course consists of eight units, core; mandatory and optional units. Core units: Unit 1: Human Lifespan development Unit 2: Health and Social care values Mandatory units: Unit 3: Effective communication in health and social care Unit 9: Healthy living Optional units (usually four from the list below) Promoting health and well-being The impact of nutrition on health and well-being Individual rights Creative and therapeutic activities Human body systems Social influences
