UPDATED 20151103 11:02:04

What will I learn? This course is a vocational course which is equivalent to two GCSEs A* – C. The BTEC First Certificate in Public Services is an exciting new opportunity for students who may be considering a career in the uniformed services, for example, the Police, Emergency Fire Services, Prison Service, Security or the three Armed Services. You will learn what they are, what the people who work in them do and what careers are available to them. You will look at the similarities and differences and decide which might appeal to you most. How will I be taught? You will learn in a variety of different ways through practical activities in school, visits, presentations, practical assessments, role-play and simulation. You will gather evidence, which may take the form of written evidence, PowerPoint presentations, video, photographs, interviews and witness statements. There will be many opportunities to experience practically how the uniformed services work. How will I be assessed? All the assessment for this course is internal, which means you will be assessed by your teachers in school. There is no formal examination set by the awarding body. You will study three units of work and you must pass each unit. However, you can also aim for a Merit or Distinction. This course provides a very good progression route to more advanced qualifications, such as BTEC National.
