What will I learn? You will learn how businesses make and sell their products; how they choose where to set up; how they use new technology to help them make goods and communicate with their customers and suppliers and how businesses avoid harming their environment and breaking laws. You will also learn about the experiences of employees in the workplace, such as how they would apply for a job and the different types of jobs that they might do. You will learn how businesses communicate with their customers; how information technology helps businesses to run more effectively; how businesses look after their customers and how customers and workers are protected by laws. You will also learn about how businesses keep track of their money; how they would raise money to start and run a business; how they use budgets to plan their spending and how businesses and their customers make payments to one another. You will also find out how information technology makes all of these things easier and more efficient. How will I be taught? You will be taught in a variety of ways. Your portfolios of work (coursework) will be produced by doing case studies of local businesses. This will include visits and talks by local business people. You will also do your own research from textbooks, the Internet, and collect information when you are on work experience. You will be responsible for your own learning and producing portfolios of evidence that will be presented using ICT. You will be given background information by your teacher and helped to produce your coursework portfolio. Teaching will include the use of visual aids such as PowerPoint presentations, overhead projections and interactive materials on the computer. You will use a computer during lessons as well as a range of textbooks for your own research.
