Come to St Peters and study Biology at advanced level and study the new A level Biology course with resources specifically and carefully developed for the course. There is an emphasis on practical work and the use of a wide range of teaching and learning activities that will suit all students and will help you to learn and progress. We run an ecology trip to Hunstanton where students learn about ecological sampling techniques and broaden their skills in the identification of living things. There are a very large number of practical based activities which allow the skill development necessary for the practical assessments which are divided into three areas of quantitative, qualitative and evaluative skills. You will develop various practical skills, widen your knowledge and develop the ability to apply your knowledge to explain the results of experiments. Within the changes to the specification is the introduction of 'How Science Works' (HSW) elements into the sub topics. The HSW elements include ethical issues in Science, scientific knowledge in its social context, theories and models to develop scientific explanations and the communication of information. These are exciting changes to the course and students are asked to cover a number of new areas such as ethical issues which are very much to the fore as technology advances. Within the course of lessons and experiments you will need to work as part of a team which may comprise of working with another student or working in larger groups. There will be times when you will have to present your work and peer assess the wok of others. The presentation of work will help you to develop your self confidence levels.
