GCSE Humanities explores the issues which challenge human societies. This programme of study offers a stimulating mix of subjects including Citizenship, Geography, History, RE and Sociology, giving students the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the world around them. The humanities course offers an engaging blend of various subject disciplines and encourages students to apply their direct experiences of the world around them in developing thier knowledge of a variety of cultural, economic, environmental, historical, moral, political, religious, social, spatial and spiritual contexts. GCSE Humanities has 25 per cent controlled assessment and lays a solid platform for further education and vocational options.

Name: GCSE Humanities - (GCADV) Qualification title: GCSE in Humanities Qualification type: Assessment Assessment is based upon both examinations and controlled assessment in a chosen field. Unit 1: Humanities Core Candidates study both parts of the core. Core 1: Culture and Beliefs Core 2: Environmental Issues Unit 2: Humanities Options Candidates study any two of the following options. Option 1: Conflict and Co-operation Option 2: Prejudice and Persecution Option 3: Global Inequality Option 4: Family and Socialisation Option 5: People and Work Unit 3: Humanities Investigation The investigation consists of one assignment, of up to 2000 words in length, arising from the subject content for Units 1 and 2. Candidates must undertake one of the seven tasks set by AQA each year, one on each part of the core and one on each option. All tasks are replaced each year. The candidates' work is internally marked and externally moderated. The written papers are not tiered. In Unit 1, two compulsory questions are set, one on each part of the core. Each question carries 36 marks and contains a number of sub-questions. Each question tests all three Assessment Objectives. In Unit 2, five questions are set, one on each option.
