What will I learn? Food Technology is an exciting and interesting course, which enables you to develop a number of skills. These include problem solving, designing and making, analysis and evaluation in relation to food as a commodity and product development within the food industry. During the two-year course, you will study a variety of topics relating to food and the commercial production of new products. You should be aware that a commitment to practical work, including cooking, is expected. How will I be taught? You will be taught in a mixed ability group of about 20 students. Food Technology lessons are of a practical nature. You will be expected to be well organised in your lessons, bringing in what you need and settling to work quickly. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed: · By coursework and a practical exam; this element carries 60% of your final GCSE marks. Your coursework task, which will involve designing and creating a product, will start in Year 10, and will form a major part of your work throughout the course. By a final exam, with two papers, which carries the remaining 40% of the GCSE marks.
