Psychology IB SL Level 3

UPDATED 20151029 12:03:42

The study of the biological level of analysis, the cognitive level of analysis and the sociocultural level of analysis comprises the core of the Psychology course, which is studied by all students. The three levels of analysis focus on three fundamental influences on behaviour: biological, cognitive and sociocultural. The interaction of these influences substantially determines behaviour. The level of analysis approach reflects a modern trend in Psychology towards integration and demonstrates how explanations offered by each of the three levels of analysis complement one another and together provide more complete and satisfactory explanations of human behaviour. All students will also study Abnormal Psychology and aspects of research methodology, becoming researchers themselves as they conduct and report on a simple experiment. At Higher Level the research methods and the experimental research study are expected to be more in-depth than for the Standard Level. In addition, Higher Level students will study qualitative research methodology and a second area of Psychology, the Psychology of Human Relationships.
