An enjoyable subject in which you will develop your personal responses to ideas, observation, experiences, environments and cultures in practical forms. The course allows you to develop and expand on the skills you have gained in GCSE. You will be expected to work independently and develop your own themes and ideas. The course will be suitable for anyone with an interest in creative work. The staff in the art department have a number of years' experience teaching all aspects of art, craft and design disciplines. The tectile department is fully equipped with 10 sewing machines and resources to develop mixed media based work. Techniques taught include machine and hand embroidery, applique, print, batik, felt making and soft sculpture.
Name: Textiles A Level Qualification title: Textiles A Level Qualification type: Assessment During the course at AS you will be expected to complete 2 units, each contributing towards 50% of your final AS grade. Unit 1 requires you to complete a‘coursework portfolio’. The portfolio will include atleast one extended coursework project; the theme ofthis will be decided by yourself with help from your teacher. Unit 1 will also allow you to include ‘one off’tasks which aren’t directly linked with your extended project. In Unit 2 you will need to develop a project from a list of themes set externally by the exam board.The AS in Textiles will contribute towards 50% of yourA2 grade should you choose to continue with the course. To complete the full A2 course you will be expected to complete 2 units, each contributing towards 25% ofyour final A2 grade. Unit 1 requires you to complete a‘personal investigation’. Although this is a practical project you will be required to complete a written element of between 1000 and 3000 words.
