Spanish IB HL Level 3

UPDATED 20151029 10:39:27

The IB qualification in Languages is internationally recognised and taught in many countries in Europe and further abroad. The IB programme is skills-based and, as such, provides a unique opportunity for flexibility in choice of topics covered for both students and teachers. Language B Higher level and Standard level are language acquisition courses developed for students with some background in the target language; while learning an additional language, students will explore the culture/s connected to it. Therefore, the purposes of these courses are language acquisition and intercultural awareness. In IB languages students develop their awareness of the full range of language usage – from colloquial language, using authentic idiomatic expressions to formal business language. This will be achieved by using a very wide variety of multi-media resources. These skills are an integral part of speaking, reading and writing. The study of IB languages will actively promote and encourage a profound understanding of culture and society in the target language countries. The main focus is to teach the language in context, promote the development of linguistic skills and increase the awareness of social, economic and political issues. The course consists of five topics, three from the Core and two chosen from the five options: The Core – with topics common to both levels - is divided into three parts and is a required area of study. These areas are: Social relationships, Communication and media and Global issues In addition, 5 Options (Health, Customs and Traditions, Leisure, Cultural Diversity, Science and Technology) will be taught at Higher and Standard levels. At Higher level only, 2 works of literature are studied.
