Supporting Teaching & Learning In Schools Specialist Diploma

Mandatory Units you will study through the course will be the following: - Understand child and young person development- - Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young - people- - Communication and professional relationships with children and young people- - Schools as organisations- - Support children and young people's health and safety- - Support learning activities- - Promote children and young people's positive behaviour- - Develop professional relationships with children- young people and adults- - Promote equality- diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people- - Support assessment for learning- - Engage in personal development in health- social care or children and young people's settings. In addition to the Certificate units students doing the Diploma will need to do at least 4 Optional units which will be selected in consultation with your assessors. Maths- English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.

Entry requirements

To enrol on the course you will need to arrange a placement for two days a week working directly in the classroom with a teacher supervising you. The placement and course requires you to have an enhanced disclosure CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check which you will need to arrange with the school before you start. This certificate should be brought to college on the first session of your course with a letter confirming your participation at a school written on headed note paper and signed by the teacher you will work with. You will be need to provide all basic stationery including pens- pencils- paper- plastic wallets- folders plus any additional stationery which is required for your course. You will also need to provide costs for text books- and trips (optional) during the course. You should allow approximately £30 to cover these costs and £60 for your Criminal Records Bureau check. Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham- Walsall- Wolverhampton- Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
