The course comprises of 12 units: Introduction to the hair and beauty sector, Presenting a professional image in a salon, Shampoo and conditioning, Colour in the hair and beauty sector, Styling women's hair, Styling men's hair, Plaiting and twisting, Create a hair and beauty image, Follow health and safety, Working with others, and the Art of dressing hair. Each unit has practical assessments and assignments. Some of the units also have a small test. The learner may also take Functional Skills or GCSE qualifications in English and maths These will be used to enhance the learner's skills throughout various aspects of the course. Learners will undertake a programme of study in Learner Employment Achievement Programme - LEAP, and will need to undertake a minimum of 36 hours work experience in a hairdressing salon, during the course.
