Art History: Masterpieces of Art Nouveau

The course focuses on the art and architecture produced in Europe between 1890 and the First World War. Inspired by the natural world artists such as Beardsley, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Jan Toorop, Klimt and Emile Galle' established a style based on sinuous lines, elongated forms and use of exotic materials. Art Nouveau architecture flourished in major European cities with Gaudi, Otto Wagner, Hector Guimard and Horta who aimed to create buildings appropriate for the modern world.
