Course Description The course gives you the opportunity to study a range of carpentry and joinery skills and help you progress through the other levels of training offered within carpentry and joinery. If you enjoy using your hands, have good hand and eye co-ordination and enjoy being part of a team then a carpenter or joiner could be the ideal role for you. Site carpentry and joinery will involve fitting windows, doors, skirting boards etc on a construction site. It's a skilled job that utilises special tools, and often involves many different kinds of wood. You will need to develop your maths as you will be calculating angles and measurements. We run a series of taster session during the year for you to come and have a go at Construction to see if this is the right choice for you. Extended Description You will have the opportunity to carry out practical work and will cover a range of different skills including: • Contribute to Work Relationships • Contribute to Providing Working Platforms • Preparation and Use of Portable Power Tools • Maintenance and Use of Woodworking Power Tools • Use Basic Wood Jointing Techniques • Handle and Store Resources • English & maths It is expected that you would undertake some work experience as part of the course, this is usually in the form of voluntary projects co-ordinated by the tutors. Future Opportunities Once you have completed this course, you will be able to go onto study the Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery course or progress onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship, where you will develop your skills further and then be ready to go and work in the industry. You can go onto site to be a general labourer from this course or an assistant to a carpenter or joiner
Name: Carpentry & Joinery – Level 1 Qualification title: Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment You will be assessed at the end of each unit, this will be through a multiple choice knowledge test and a practical assessment. Whilst taking one of our full-time courses you will also complete a programme of Functional Skills which could comprise of a combination of English and Math. These Functional Skills are an essential requirement for employment progression, higher education and other further education courses.
