The course consists of the core units and one specialist unit. Core units: 1. Visual recording and communication. 2. Critical and contextual studies. 3. The creative process. Optional specialist units we intend to study: 1. Photographic materials, techniques and processes. Students are encouraged to take part in work experience placements to further develop their knowledge and understanding. Trips to galleries and museums will be organised and students are expected to visit galleries in their own time.

Unit 2 – Critical and contextual studies. • Students will be given a brief set by the exam board. This is to be carried out under supervised conditions, totalling three hours. Students will have a set amount of time prior to the three hours to prepare their response. This will be a practical response. Students will explore painting, drawing, printmaking and 3D materials. • Students will be given a research brief, set by the exam board. This is to be carried out under supervised conditions, totalling five hours. Students will have a five weeks prior to the five hours to prepare their response. This will be a written task. Internally assessed: Unit 3 – The Creative process. Unit 4 - Photographic materials and techniques. • Students will explore and experiment with a wide variety of materials, leading towards a final piece. Students will have the opportunity to explore, painting, drawing, 3D process and batik. • Students will experiment with a variety of photographic materials, learning both digital and darkroom processes.
