This course is concerned with applying ICT to solve problems and the study of the opportunities for and affects of using ICT in the world today. Students will have the opportunity to put into practice a wide range of software and hardware to create solutions to solve problems. The first module, Practical Problem Solving in the Digital World, considers issues relating to the practical use of ICT in today’s society including the identification of real-life problems and the design, production, testing, documentation and evaluation of solutions. Issues related to data entry, storage, output of information, use of software, current health and safety legislation are also considered. The second module, Living in a Digital World, focuses on ICT systems, their components, uses, safety and security, the nature of data and information, data transfer, backup and recovery. In the second year the course focuses upon the use of ICT. The third module, the Use of ICT in a Digital World, concentrates on the development of ICT technologies and information needs of organisations. The analysis of these ‘needs’ leads onto the development of solution systems and the related training needs of final users. The final year also includes a substantial coursework project that applies the skills and knowledge developed throughout the course. Students demonstrate their ability to managing the use of ICT in organisations by investigating a real-life need and then developing, testing, evaluating and documenting their solution.
