Students are assessed in a solo and ensemble performance on an instrument or voice (40%), controlled assessment composing where they choose from three briefs (30%) and a listening and appraising examination (30%) which includes answering questions based on excerpts of music, and two essay questions based on set works; an orchestral symphony and a specific genre of music.
