Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Sport - Development, Coaching & Fitness

If you’re interested in sports coaching, fitness instructing or the development of sport this is the course for you. It is a mixture of practical and theory, and you will study subjects such as principles of anatomy and physiology, fitness training, organising sports events, work experience in sport and sports coaching. You will benefit from taking part in sport at a variety of outstanding local facilities, including Carus Green Golf Club, Kendal Leisure Centre, Ulverston Tennis Centre, Kendal Squash Club.You will also benefit from small class sizes and will work with industry professionals in a variety of settings to support your career in the Sport and Leisure Industry. You will take part in a range of team and individual sports throughout the year which include badminton, football, basketball, table tennis, rugby, gym programmes, squash. cricket, rounders, plus a range of other sports. During the course you will put your theoretical knowledge into practice by planning training programmes for individuals and developing your coaching in practical sessions and working with children. The course involves a variety of visits to enhance student knowledge and the ability to work with employers. One example includes learners visiting Active Cumbria (The County Sports Partnership) to look at the roles and responsibilities of how sport is delivered in the county. Other trips include attending National Centres of Excellence, such as St George’s Park (Football Association National Centre) as well as trips abroad to Club La Santa Resort in Lanzarote. You will also increase your own personal and fitness levels! You will also have the opportunity to undertake sports volunteering, gain a National Governing Body award and compete for the College’s sports teams.
