Film Studies

UPDATED 20161108 15:50:06

From September 2017, Film Studies will be undertaken as a linear qualification. In Year 12, the course will equip students with the necessary academic language and theory to investigate and evaluate film. The key concepts covered will be mise-en-scène, cinematography, editing and sound, and how these elements combine to construct meanings and contribute to the sensory impact of film. As students progress through the course, they will develop their subject knowledge through an in-depth study of both English language and foreign language film, as well as a historical study of film through different eras, including the silent era, classical Hollywood and the contemporary cinematic landscape. The coursework element requires students to produce their own short film, or write a screenplay, and to provide an accompanying analysis of their own work.
