A Level English Literature is a challenging course that builds on the skills acquired while studying for GCSE English Literature. Students will develop their interest in and enjoyment of literature through reading widely, critically and independently, across centuries, genre, gender, race, and through experience of an extensive range of views about texts and how to read them. You will explore connections and comparisons between texts, as well as considering the significance and influence of the contexts in which they were written and received.

Paper 2: Texts in shared contexts 2 1/2 hour written exam-40% A level For this module you will look at the issue of identity in Literature from a modern perspective. All texts are 1945 onwards and at least one is post-2000. The exam covers poetry, prose and drama and texts include 'A Streetcar Named Desire', 'The Color Purple' and 'Feminine Gospels'. Non exam assessment: Independent study Independent essay-20% A level Comparative critical study of two texts of your choice totalling 2,500 words.
