ANIMAL CARE - LEVEL 2

This course aims to provide students with an introduction to animal care which could lead to employment at a junior level or to further courses. It will help students to develop personal and administrative skills needed in this kind of work as well as providing introduction to animal care and underpinning knowledge. The course is suitable for school leavers and adults with an interest in working with animals. Examples of units you may study are: - Work Related Experience - Practical Animal Feeding - Maintain Animal Accommodation - Animal Biology - Animal Health & Welfare - Animal Breeds and Grooming - Understand Animal Behaviour & Handling You will learn through taught classes, practical demonstrations, educational visits and visiting speakers from the industry. All LMC students will receive tutorial support. A work placement has to be completed as a mandatory part of the course; the placement should be arranged by the learner themselves and may involve access to animals from the categories of: - Large animals - Companion animals - Rodents - Exotics species All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade A*-C in these subjects. If you have a grade D at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D will work towards GCSE through the study of maths and English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
