What will I learn about? 1 The Tudors: England, 1485–1603 (Breadth) Students study issues of change, continuity, cause and consequence by considering how effectively the Tudors restored and developed the powers of the monarchy including relations with foreign powers and how English society and economy changed. 2 Germany, 1918–1945 (Depth) Students study a period during which a newly developed democratic government gave way to a dictatorial Nazi regime. It explores political concepts such as 'right' and 'left', nationalism and liberalism as well as ideological concepts such as racialism, anti-Semitism and Social Darwinism. 3 The Middle East 1995-2000 (Historical Investigation) Students will develop an understanding of the nature and purpose of history as a discipline and how historians work. They will investigate why Arab nationalism emerged and how the Great Powers responded. The causes of conflict in Palestine and why they are so difficult to resolve.
