A Level Government and Politics is recognised as a highly academic subject. The skills you will develop prepare you for further education and employment. You will have learned how to evaluate and analyze information how to weigh up evidence and communicate complex ideas effectively. Furthermore, you will have an in depth knowledge and understanding of political ideas, theories, concepts and practices. There are two units in Year 12, both relating to British Government and Politics. The first unit explores People, Politics and Participation. Topics include Electoral Systems, Voting Behaviour, Pressure Groups and Political Parties. The second unit focuses on Governing Modern Britain and topics include Parliament, Core Executive and the British Constitution. Year 13 has a focus on American Government and Politics and there are also 2 units. Unit 3A looks at the Government of the USA, again examining Electoral Systems, Voting Behaviour, Pressure Groups and Political Parties. Unit 4A follows the Politics of the USA looking at the role and powers of the President, Congress, the Supreme Court and the US Constitution.
