You will study Pure Mathematics Core 1 and Core 2 with either Mechanics 1 or Statistics 1 in the first year. This leads to an AS Mathematics qualification. In the second year you will study Pure Mathematics Core 3 and Core 4 with Mechanics 2 or Statistics 2. This leads to an A Level Mathematics qualification. Pure Mathematics: Core 1: Some of the topics covered in the higher GCSE are revised and extended: indices, surds, quadratics, completing the square, simultaneous equations, linear and quadratic inequalities, manipulation of algebraic expressions, graphs (including use for solving equations, transformations and straight lines) and sequences. New topics: differentiation and integration. Core 2: Further higher GCSE topics, circle properties, sine and cosine rules, area of triangle and trigonometric graphs. New topics: algebraic division, remainder and factor theorem, equation of a circle, geometric sequences, expansion of (1+x)n, alternative measure for angles, trigonometric identities, solving trigonometric equations, exponentials and logarithms further differentiation and integration. Core 3 and Core 4: Develop the Core 1 and 2 topics further and introduce new ones.
