This course is run with a broad based approach to the creative possibilities within the subject. Emphasis in the first year of the course is on the acquisition of technical skills, including understanding the SLR camera, developing and processing film, using digital media and the exploration of innovative and creative approaches to media and techniques. As the course progresses, students are encouraged to focus on independently selected concerns and themes. The place of photography In visual culture. History and contemporary society are examined to complement practical work. Art and Photography can be taken together but require advanced independent study skills and are very time consuming, taking up more hours than the allocated lesson and homework time. Photography students are required to use their own SLR and digital cameras. There are also additional costs involved in this course including purchasing film, darkroom papers and printing paper which are all available from school at reasonable prices.
