A Level Applied Science is a qualification which enables students to explore the world of science in a practical and relevant way. The course is taught from a vocational perspective, requiring students to carry out investigative methods similar to those used by scientists in industry. In Year 12 students have one examination focusing on how the respiratory and circulatory systems work in the body, including imaging methods used by hospitals. There are also two coursework units focusing on science in industry with an in depth study into the use of science in the brewing industry, and analysis methods used in science with focus on energy transfers and chemical analysis methods. In Year 13 the examination is based on sampling and testing procedure (focusing on Chemistry methods) and two coursework units; planning and carrying out your own investigation plus an optional module (Ecology and Organic Chemistry are options taken previously)
