Year 12 AS Outline All candidates will aim to cover 4 modules in Year 12: Core 1 (C1), Statistics 1 (S1), Core 2 (C2) and Mechanics 1 (M1), all examined in June at the end of Year 12. The Core modules are a mixture of Pure Mathematics topics and applications of Mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, calculus). Statistics is the study of data analysis and probability. Mechanics is the study of motion and is very useful to those studying Physics. Doing 4 modules has an advantage for those students aiming for a top grade, however if some students are struggling with the content to cover 4 modules, then the course may be adjusted to cover 3 modules which is necessary to get an AS-level qualification. Year 13 A2 Outline Candidates will cover the remaining 2 compulsory modules, Core 3 (C3) and Core 4 (C4) to complete A2, both examined in June at the end of Year 13. The modules cover extension work in algebra, trigonometry, calculus as well as other topics such as exponentials, vectors and logarithms. Those students who have done 3 modules in Year 12 will do 3 in Year 13 (C3 & C4 plus the other one not covered in Year 12), again examined in June. Re-sits from any of the modules covered in Year 12 can be taken at this time too.
