The extended certificate is the equivalent of a single A-Level whilst the Diploma is equivalent to two A -Levels. The course consists of 3 coursework units, one mandatory and two optional and 3 exams. Units include developing effective communication in health and social care, nutrition, caring for children and young people and health and safety. Students in Year 13 have the opportunity to choose some units themselves. Work experience is encouraged during the course to help students link theory to practice. The CTEC is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. They are a recognised qualification and allow students to gain UCAS points for progression to Higher Education.
