The course gives students the widest possible grounding in Biological knowledge so that they will be able to progress to any Biology-based university course including Medicine, Dentistry,Veterinary, Forensic or Biomedical Science, or progress to a Science-based allied industry. Unit 1: Basic biochemistry and cell structure. Unit 2:Digestion, respiration, classification, transport and reproduction. Unit 3: Practical unit, assessed via a practical investigation and microscope work. Unit 4: Photosynthesis, cellular respiration, microscopy, the nervous system and the urinary system. Unit 5: Genetics and genetic engineering, inheritance, reproduction, ecology and human impact on the environment. Unit 6: Practical unit, assessed via a practical investigation and microscope work. Assessed by coursework and exam.
