Energy transfers in and between organisms 6. Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments 7. Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems 8. The control of gene expression Twelve required practical tasks will be completed during the A-level course (six in the AS/ first year of A-level and six in the second year of A-level). These practical skills are taken from across fields of biology and include enzymology, microscopy, cell biology, dissection, aseptic technique (microbiology) and using calibration curves.
