Year 1 Sociology allows us to think deeply about British society and how it affects our behaviour. You will consider how we learn to behave as a female or a male the experiences of people according to their ethnicity social class disability sexuality age and nationality. You will look at how globalisation has affected our identities and the theories of different sociologists on these identities. The course also investigates the education system looking at the purpose of education and why different groups have varying experiences in education. Sociology will suit people who enjoy examining ideas and who have an interest in current affairs. Year 2 In your second year you will look at the role of the media in society which includes new media and the significance for understanding the role of the media in contemporary society. You will study Crime and Deviance which includes; crime control surveillance prevention and punishment victims and the role of the criminal justice system and other agencies. In Theory and Methods you will investigate the nature of science and the extent to which Sociology can be regarded as scientific.
