Year 1 Media Studies is a dynamic and broad-ranging course which encourages the analysis and production of media texts through close study of contemporary media. You will learn how to analyse media texts in relation to key concepts of representation audience institutions and media language. In the coursework unit you will research plan produce and evaluate your own media product whilst developing ICT skills in the form of an ongoing interactive coursework blog. For the exam unit you will explore different representations and how they are created in TV dramas as well as an individual case study on the relationships between institutions and audiences in a specific media area. Year 2 The second year of this course will challenge you to engage with complex theories and perspectives that can be applied to both your own practical production work and contemporary media products. For the coursework unit you will complete a multimedia project from a set brief which will enhance and expand your first year media production skills. The exam will consist of theoretical evaluations of production work and an individual case study on a specific contemporary media issue.
