Year 1 Dance is a very enjoyable course which combines practical and theoretical aspects. You will take part in practical technique sessions to develop your dance style whilst learning different contemporary dance techniques. You will develop your performance skills and rehearse your dances throughout the term learning how to devise effective dance routines (solo choreography) and work in groups to develop your ideas. You will watch and analyse a range of contemporary jazz and classical professional dance pieces. Fitness training is included in the practical work. Year 2 Your second year in Dance will further extend your contemporary dance technique in preparation for a set dance performance. You will also spend time improving your fitness through a range of practical activities. As the second year is focused on choreographing a group dance a lot of the first term is spent developing group choreographies. To prepare you for the written exam you will learn to analyse dance and write extended answers. You will study a focused topic (ballet modern dance or jazz) and learn a set piece for analysis.
