Year 1 Communication takes many forms from personal conversation to global cultural messages. You will study how people communicate with one another and how conceptual models and theories help to explain the nature of communication in personal interpersonal and group contexts. Communication and Culture Studies is diverse in its content and is complementary to many other subject areas including social sciences humanities and arts courses. During the course you will develop skills competence and knowledge in both the study and practice of communication. You will investigate your own cultural environment and then consider different forms of communication and interpretation within and between cultures. Year 2 Throughout your second year you will develop an understanding of both communication and culture in contemporary society from a range of theoretical perspectives and how they are prevalent in personal organisational and environmental contexts. Work at this level is underpinned by a large theoretical element including Marxist Feminist and Post Modern perspectives. There is a large practical component in the second year which will require you to research and investigate a contemporary issue and create a practical piece of media. Previous students have explored topics such as tribal chanting at football matches how national identity is created and how cultural hybridity shapes what we wear and eat?
