Year 1 You will study the history and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome paying particular attention to two of the most important periods in Ancient History: ? Athens in the fifth century BC - the world?s first democracy created over two thousand five hundred years ago with a focus on the key leaders and ordinary people of the time. ? Cicero and the late Republic ? you will cover how the late Republican system began to implode from the pressures of key individuals such as Pompey Caesar and Claudius as well as economic and social difficulties. You will use original sources such as Cicero?s letters to develop skills in interpreting and evaluating the reliability of evidence. Year 2 You will continue to build upon the knowledge understanding and skills you developed at AS. The two modules you will study are: ? Conflict and Culture - the Peloponnesian War which was a conflict between two of Greece?s most powerful states: Athens and Sparta. You will look at the progression of the war and explore how it lead to the creation of the Athenian Empire. ? Fall of the Republic - the key individuals that brought the Roman Empire crashing down through the writings of those who witnessed it.
