Have you ever wanted to know how your country was run? Do you have an interest in current affairs? If so Politics could be the ‘A’ level for you. You do not need to have had any previous knowledge of Politics to take this course, and indeed most of our students have never studied Politics before, but if you fancy a new challenge and have an interest then we are happy to have you on board. The course is assessed in an exam built around a series of mini-essays and short answers, it tests similar skills to the rest of the humanities subjects. The first year focus’s on how the British political system works, and prepares you for the Year 13 course which involves a comparison between the British and American political systems and also an in depth study of ideology, which leads to fierce arguments about what is right, and what is the best way to govern a country. Every year we go to the Houses of Parliament and meet MPs and members of the House of Lords. We are a well resourced department with plenty of excellent textbooks designed to help students who have never studied the subject before, and then other books to take your studies on further.
