Economics affects everything around us. Students will study both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics provides students with a basic toolkit for economics enabling them to understand why we need markets, how they work and how prices are determined. Students will also look at why markets fail and whether government taxes, regulations and subsidies are the best way to solve economic problems. Macroeconomics provides students with the opportunity to look at how competitive the UK is, whether we do have a stronger economy than our European neighbours and if we can change the UK economy to make it the number one economy in the world. Students will also develop their understanding of trade, globalisation and economic development providing them with an invaluable insight, not just into economics, but into how the wider world works.
