A Level Politics

UPDATED 20161010 12:57:18

The study of Politics at A Level will give students an insight into fascinating world of power and how it is wielded. The study of Politics is concerned with understanding where power lies in society and it will enable students to better understand the world that we live in. In their first year of study students will acquire an understanding of how Britain is governed, studying the nature of democracy and the relationship between the government and the people. Students will also gain an understanding of the major governmental processes and institutions of the UK. We live now in an increasingly globalised world and that is reflected in our second year of study. Students will study global political structure, considering global governance and the changing world order. Students will also study global political issues, including human rights and the environment. Naturally, any understanding of politics is underpinned by the study of ideologies and as such students will study the three core political ideas of conservatism, socialism and liberalism in addition to optional political ideas such as ecologism and feminism. The study of politics will equip students with knowledge that is relevant to the world that they live in as well as the ability to think critically, evaluate information and communicate their ideas effectively. * Please note that the Edexcel specification for 2017 has recently been released and is still subject to Ofqual accreditation. As such, the above information is subject to change.
