English Language AS What will I Study? Studying English Language will develop your ability to express yourself in speech and writing. You will also gain an in-depth understanding of linguistic concepts and methods which will help you to analyse and investigate a variety of extracts taken from everyday sources – both literary and non-fiction texts. Course Content At AS, the teaching will focus on: Speech and Writing and Social Contexts (Gender, Power and Technology) for the exam. You will also produce two texts targeted at different audiences with different purposes and in different genres. Alongside two commentaries on how you crafted your work, these will constitute your coursework in the Original Writing module. The course encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and will give you a strong grounding in working with data. How will I be assessed? Timed examinations. Entry Requirements Students should hold a minimum of 5 A* - C GCSE grades including Grade B at GCSE English Language Progression English language is a very versatile subject that combines easily with a variety of A Levels. Some of the more obvious choices of related careers include: Teaching, Journalism, Public Relations, Human Resources, Publishing and other jobs within the Media and Communications Industries. However, students from this course have also gone on to study Clinical Linguistics, Forensic Linguistics and Events Management
