Politics will become a new ‘linear’ A Level in 2017 and the Specification is changing. The final details are awaiting approval by Ofqual, but the outline of the course can be explained here. Students will study British and American politics; how the political systems work and how the people get to participate in politics. The course aims to give students an introduction to a wide range of aspects of government and politics and to provide a sound basis for students to continue studying the subject at a higher level. The course allows students to see how the theory regarding government and politics is put into practice in the real world. Students are encouraged to take an interest in the news and current affairs in order to gain an appreciation of what is happening in the world. There are three components in the new A Level: Component 1: UK Politics and Core Political Ideas Component 2: UK Government and Optional Political Ideas Component 3: Comparative Politics including US Government and Politics
