AS/A Level English Language and Literature

UPDATED 20161003 11:19:12

This specification is designed to develop the understanding of English Language and Literature as a combined discipline and draw on experiences at GCSE as well as offering a secure foundation for the study of English beyond A-level. It will develop interest in and enjoyment of independent reading, whilst developing candidates’ ability to make personal responses as critics of both literary and non-literary texts. The variety of assessment styles used, such as re-creative writing, commentary writing, discursive essays and research-based investigative writing, allows students to develop a wide range of skills. These include the ability to read critically, analyse, evaluate and undertake independent research, which are essential both for further study and future employment.
