The course provides students with the opportunity to develop their interest in and appreciation of English, through learning about its structures and its functions, its developments and its variations. The course will encourage the students to produce work that is both analytical and creative. One of the key differences from English Literature ‘A’ Level is that English Language students are required to analyse the intricacies of language in their study of texts and to their own creative writing. You need to enjoy identifying, analysing and evaluating how speakers and writers use different features of language to achieve their aims. Potential students should consider carefully whether they would enjoy and benefit from such study.
